Born in 1978, Tom Hoar developed a passion for ‘plein air’ painting under the guidance of his father, the watercolour artist John Hoar. From an early age he has undertaken commissions and exhibited with the New English Art Club, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Watercolour Society and Grandyart.

In 2012 Tom exhibited with The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, following a 12-month residency accompanying the Regiment on their ceremonial duties and daily routine at Hyde Park Barracks. Since then, he has spent time painting with Giffords Circus and embarked on painting excursions to Transylvania, India, Morocco, Jersey, Italy, Ireland, the Hebrides, and Cornwall, in search of the strong light and local colour that underpins his working practise. Back in the studio, the studies and smaller paintings from these trips are developed into larger canvases. Between projects, Tom undertakes commissions of a wide range of subjects.

Tom has just returned from a painting expedition to Laikipia and Lamu Island in Kenya in preparation for a solo show of his new works.  He is represented by Panter & Hall in London.
